Shells & Shores
Introduction
Shells and Shores is a photo book that explores the deep bond
between women and nature. It looks at how nature reflects the
strength, beauty, and transformation of women, honouring their
resilience and deep connection to the world around them.
This series focuses on natural elements found at the beach: shells,
rocks, and the tide. These forms, shaped by time and weathered
by their surroundings, stand as quiet symbols of endurance and
change. Shells and rocks, in particular, carry stories. They are worn, imperfect, and still beautiful.
The constant movement of the tide became a metaphor for the
changes women experience throughout their lives. The idea of
cycles runs through this project, seen in the pull of the ocean, the
shifting sands, and the slow erosion of stone over time. These
natural rhythms reflect the transitions, strength, and adaptability that shape womanhood.
Including my mum and sister in this project made it deeply
personal. They represent everything this book tries to express. The
themes of womanhood, femininity, sisterhood, and the mother-
daughter relationships are woven through every image.
More than anything, this book is about truly seeing the women
who have shaped me. It’s about creating space for what is natural,
imperfect, and unspoken. I hope that anyone who looks through
these pages will recognise the women in their own lives, and maybe even parts of themselves.
